Tiger: I’m trying everything to make it to Augusta

Former world number one Tiger Woods says he is “trying everything” to get back to full fitness in time for the Masters.

The first major of the season – which the American has won no less than four times – gets under way at Augusta National on April 6 and Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day are four players who are expected to make a strong challenge.

However, Woods is still yet to confirm whether he will participate in the tournament as he continues to recover from a back injury that flared up again at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year.

If he does make it back in time, Woods will be one to look out for and a popular outside bet considering his experience.

The 41-year-old has not been seen in competitive action since pulling out before the second round in the United Arab Emirates and several reports have suggested he will not be back in time for the event in Georgia.

But, when asked on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ whether he would be able to play in the Masters, Woods was in optimistic mood as he aims to clinch a fifth Green Jacket.

He said: “God, I hope so. I’m trying. I’m trying everything to be able to get back and play. I love that event. It’s meant so much to me in my life. It has so much history and meaning to me, I’d love to get back.”

Woods also admitted it is just the physical side of his game that needs to improve, revealing the mental part is top notch at the moment.

“I need to get back physically,” he added. “The mind is sharp. I just need to get the body willing to do it. That’s the hard part, is getting the prep time in. I haven’t been able to get as much prep time in, haven’t been able to train like I used to, practice like I used to, so it’s been harder.”
