Rory McIlroy believes he is hitting top form at just the right time after winning the Tour Championship to claim the FedEx Cup.

The 27-year-old managed to beat American Ryan Moore on the fourth play-off hole to win at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta for the Tour Championship.

That victory meant the Northern Irishman scooped the $10m for the FedEx Cup, as he beat Dustin Johnson to the overall PGA points prize for the season.

With the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine getting underway on Friday, McIlroy feels his game is in a good place ahead of the showdown with the USA in Minnesota.

He told reporters: “All I wanted to do was concentrate on winning the Tour Championship.

“I couldn’t control what anyone else did. I needed to come out here and play a really good round of golf. I just wanted to go out and play the way I have been playing.

“I feel my game is really coming together at the right time, and two wins in the last three feels pretty nice.”
