Justin Rose says he is now completely over his back injury and is fully fit for the US Open, which gets underway on Thursday.

The 35-year-old has been hampered by the injury over the past month and has not played competitively since last month’s Players Championship in Florida.

Rose pulled out of the European Tour’s flagship PGA Championship at Wentworth at the end of May to rest and recover from the problem and he now says he’s ready to go at Oakmont this week, even if he admits he has struggled to get out on the course and practice as much as he would have liked recently.

He said: “I’ve done everything humanly possible to be here from a recovery point of view, from a fitness point of view, from a practice point of view. It’s been a race against the clock really.

“There’s no doubt my practice schedule has been on the light side, limiting the number of balls I’ve been hitting. I only started hitting the driver two or three days ago, so it’s definitely been a tight timetable.

“But I?m confident I’ve done a lot of the really hard work, especially in the gym, especially re-engaging all the strength around the core, and all that stuff is going to support me this week.”

Rose will be aiming to win his second major this weekend when he tees it up at the tough Oakmont course after the English star memorably won the competition at Merion in 2013.
