James Morrison says he is excited about his chances over the weekend after making the quarter-finals of the Paul Lawrie Match Play.

The Englishman defeated compatriot Graeme Storm 4&3 in the round of 32 in the early session of Friday’s play at Archerfield, before seeing off Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey by the same score in the afternoon.

Morrison is now set to face Alejandro Canizares in the quarter-finals on Saturday morning, after the Spaniard brushed aside the in-form Matthew Fitzpatrick in the last 16.

The 31-year-old admits he feels right at home this week and is positive that he is only going to improve as the competition continues.

He said: “When I got here, I just loved the look of the golf course and for me my confidence grows pretty quickly.

“The minute I get my backswing in good position, I can go off and running. I’m putting it well, hitting it great. I’m very, very happy.”

Elsewhere and top seed Chris Wood is out after losing to Daniel Brooks, while Johan Carlsson, Haydn Porteous and Oliver Fisher are also amongst those to have made the last eight.
