Big golf events still to come in 2019

It’s already been an exciting golf season in 2019 but there’s even more top tournaments to come. There are millions of dollars to be won in the FedEx Cup and the BMW PGA Championship as well as national pride at stake in the Solheim Cup.

2019 has been a different year so far in the golfing world. The dates for the four Majors were changed and that means they have already taken place. That doesn’t mean a quiet end to the golfing season though. Let’s look at the top tournaments still to be played.

The FedEx Cup

With the Majors already over for 2019, the focus on the USPGA tour now turns to the money-spinning FedEx Cup. This was won by England’s Justin Rose last year. In 2019 the overall winner will receive a massive $15m, even the runner-up walks away with a staggering $5m.

Points are awarded from a series of tournaments to determine the overall winner. The recent Northern Trust saw victory for Patrick Reed. That leaves two more tournaments starting with the BMW Championship which takes place at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois. It’s being competed for by the top 70 players on the tour between August 15 and 18.

Once that is completed, the top 30 players on the money list head to the final FedEx tournament which is the Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia. This is being held at the East Lake Golf Club between August 22 and 25. Any punters looking to have a bet, can check out the latest bet365 promotions uk for the latest special prices and odds.

Currently leading the FedEx table is world number one Brooks Koepka. Chasing him for the trophy are Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy. With two tournaments to go though, a run of form in the next few weeks could be very profitable indeed.

The Solheim Cup

There’s not long to wait for this three-day event. The best American women players will be taking on Europe’s top females between September 13 and 15. This take place in Scotland on the famous Gleneagles course.

The USA are the current holders of the women’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup. They have won the last two events, the most recent being in 2017 on home soil. Jill Inkster is again captaining the American team as she seeks a hat-trick of wins. That’s something which no captain has ever achieved.

Top players taking part for Europe this year include Charley Hull, Carlota Ciganda, Anne van Dam and Georgia Hall. They will have their work cut out to regain the cup against a talented American team. The holders will be looking for plenty of wins from Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda.

BMW PGA Championship

This tournament used to take place over the May Bank Holiday. Now the top players on the European tour will be heading for Wentworth in England between September 19 and 22.

This is one of the top events on the European tour. The current holder of the title is Francesco Molinari from Italy. He won at Wentworth before going on to win the 2018 Open Championship.

It’s a tournament that has been dominated by European players. The last non-European winner was An Byeong-hun from South Korea four years ago. For an American winner you have to go back to Arnold Palmer in 1975. There will be a top field trying to win this title with Molinari confirmed to be defending his title. Others to look out for include Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald (the last man to retain the title) battling it out for the $7m prize money.
