Defending champion Martin Kaymer says he is not concerned by the lack of publicity surrounding him heading into the US Open.

The German claimed an eight stroke victory at Pinehurst 12 months ago but following an inconsistent year, has been rarely mentioned ahead of this week’s event at Chambers Bay.

Kaymer has struggled so far this season, missing a host of cuts to see him drop 19th in the global rankings.

World number one Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth are currently the favourites for the victory at the Washington layout, with Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose highly fancied.

It means he has flown under the radar somewhat heading into the second major of the year but rather than complain about the lack of media attention, says he is happy to let others take the spotlight.

“A lot of times I’m under the radar, I feel like, which is fine,” Kaymer said. “Obviously the other guys, they should get a lot of credit for what they have done.”
