Woods confirmed for Open

Three-time Open champion Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will tee it up at Carnoustie for the 147th running of the event this summer.

The 42-year-old is on the comeback trail from multiple back surgeries and has shown encouraging signs with a couple of top-five finishes on the PGA Tour this year.

The 14-time major winner ended up in a share of 32nd at the Masters but just sneaked into the weekend at last week?s Wells Fargo Championship before finishing tied for 55th.

Woods won his first Claret Jug in 2000 and followed it up in 2005 and 2006 but has failed to make the winner’s circle at any major since claiming the US Open in 2008.

He missed the cut at the Open in 2015 and injury has prevented him from playing in the event since, but he will line up in a stellar field from July 19-22.

The Florida resident finished in a tie for seventh at the Angus venue back in 1999 while he tied for 12th in 2007, but just making the line-up this year will be a great achievement given his injury woes.
