Sam Torrance believes Tommy Fleetwood has a great chance of triumphing at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this week.

Fleetwood has managed to keep the momentum going from a sensational 2017 that resulted in two European Tour titles – those victories coming at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and HNA Open de France – into 2018.

The Englishman successfully defended his Abu Dhabi title and he currently sits fifth on the World Points List ahead of the Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in France later this year.

Fleetwood tied for seventh at The Players Championship, the unofficial fifth Major, last time out and he heads to Wentworth for the BMW, which starts on Thursday, full of confidence.

Scotland’s Torrance, who captained Europe to Ryder Cup glory in 2002, believes the world number 12 has the perfect game to put together a strong challenge for success in Surrey.

“Fleetwood’s driving ability and aggressive style should see him flourish at Wentworth,” he wrote in his City AM column. “It used to be a big hitters’ course but now it’s more about accuracy and plotting your way around.

“There are still lots of birdie opportunities, though, and players will love it. I drive past it every day and it?s looking out of this world.”
