Tom Watson admits he is looking forward to taking part in this week’s KLM Open at Kennemer.

Having previously turned down a number of invitations to attend the event, Watson has finally found time in his schedule to play in the Netherlands.

The 66-year-old is part of a stellar field this week in Zandvoort, with fellow major winners Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington and YE Yang also in attendance.

After playing a practice round, the eight-time major champion admits he has been impressed by the Kennemer layout and is excited about the challenge that awaits.

“I’m very glad to accept the invitation this year, after many years of not being able to for one reason or another,” said Watson told the European Tour’s official website.

“The course is even better than I expected, and I’d heard a lot of good things about it.

“Darren Clarke said to me on Monday morning when I arrived, ‘Tom, you’re going to love this course’. It’s a great traditional course – which in this day and age means short, but you add a 15-20mph wind and it’s not so short.”
