Glory for Jaidee in Germany

JaideeThongchai Jaidee carded a final round of 67 to claim a one-stroke victory at the Porsche European Open in Germany.

The Thai player fired a stunning 64 on Saturday to give himself a narrow advantage over Graeme Storm and Ross Fisher overnight and showed his steely determination by carding four birdies and no bogeys to reach 17-under.

Storm was his nearest challenger in the final round, with the pair regularly swapping the lead, but the Englishman made a vital mistake when he found the water on the 17th and eventually had to settle for second at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach.

Sweden’s Pelle Edberg took third on his own while Australian Scott Hend was fourth ahead of a four-way tie for fifth, which included Fisher and last week’s winner Rikard Karlberg.

The win is Jaidee’s seventh on the European Tour and the 45-year-old was understandably delighted with the result in Germany.

“It’s a very special week for me,” he told the European Tour’s official website. “It is the third time I have won outside of Asia, so I’m very excited about that and I’m happy to win this tournament.

“I’m feeling very confident at the moment. I didn’t make many mistakes this week – only one bogey all week. I played very nicely and 17 under is some score for me.”
