Kisner leads at Sea Island

Kevin Kisner carded an opening round of 65 to establish a one-stroke lead after the opening day of the RSM Classic.

The 31-year-old fired five birdies and an eagle at Sea Island Resort in Georgia to move to seven-under-par and carry on his recent form, having recently come close to claiming his maiden PGA Tour title at the HSBC Champions.

Second is shared by an eight-man group on six-under, which includes former Ryder Cup player Jeff Overton and Canada’s David Hearn while behind them Stewart Cink and Freddie Jacobson are part of a 13-man tie on five-under.

It is Kisner who sits top of the congested leaderboard though and the local favourite is hoping his form in such familiar surroundings will continue over the weekend.

“I probably haven’t put as much pressure on myself this week,” Kisner told reporters. “It’s kind of a home game and we have a bunch of family and friends and we are just all hanging out.

“I haven’t really worked on it [his game] that much but that’s kind of when things go crazy and you play well so we’ll see what happens.”
