Fraser out to Master Perth International

Marcus FraserMarcus Fraser wants to follow up his victory last week with a strong showing in Perth as he bids to secure a maiden Masters berth.

The Australian won for the first time in nearly six years on the European Tour last Sunday, clinching the Maybank Championship Malaysia by two strokes to put him in prime position to qualify for the Masters.

The world’s top 50 as of March 28 receive an invite to the first major of the year at Augusta and Fraser is within striking distance of climbing into the world’s elite after his win in the Far East saw him go from 142nd to 62nd in the world.

The 37-year-old now hopes to move into the top 50 by performing well at the Perth International, an event in which Fraser finished 15th the last time it was held in 2014.

Fraser is looking forward to playing on home soil and is hopeful of putting his prior knowledge of the Lake Karrinyup course to good use as he strives to qualify for the Masters for the first time in his career.

“It’s at the front (of my mind),” said Fraser. “At the start of last week I couldn’t have been further away from thinking about that but now, all of a sudden, it’s been thrown in front of me.

“It’s a great opportunity. I’ve never played the Masters. It’s something as golfers we all dream of doing. I’ve got no one else to blame if it doesn’t happen and it’s entirely up to me to try to do everything I can to prepare properly to try to get one of those spots.”
