Rose wary of wounded US

Justin Rose is expecting the United States’ Ryder Cup team to be ‘hungry’ to end their run of defeats against Europe at Hazeltine.

The 35-year-old Englishman is set to be involved in his fourth tournament in late September as Darren Clarke’s men travel Stateside looking to record a fourth successive win and make it seven victories from the last eight head-to-heads since 2002.

However Rose, who tasted defeat in his first Ryder Cup outing in 2008, but helped Europe to victory in 2012 and 2014 while picking up a total of 10 points so far, feels the USA can feel aggrieved to have been on the losing side so much in recent years.

And, apart from Europe’s comfortable 18.5 to 9.5 victory at the K Club in the 2006, Rose claims all of the battles have been closely fought affairs.

The 2013 US Open winner told Golf.com: “I think we go into this, or certainly I go into this next Ryder Cup with no illusion that we are playing an incredibly tough team.”
