Danny Willett admits he is unsure about his chances ahead of his return this week at the Players Championship.

The 28-year-old has taken a break from the game in recent weeks on the back of his first major win at the Masters to spend time with his young son after becoming a father shortly before Augusta.

His new parenting duties, combined with his media commitments since claiming the Green Jacket have inevitably limited his time on the practice range.

Willett is due to return to the action at this week’s Players Championship at Sawgrass, which is known as the unofficial ‘fifth major’ due to the quality of the field.

The Floridia course is famous for being one of the toughest on the calendar, with the iconic island green on the 17th one of golf’s most notable landmarks.

Ahead of the tournament, Willett says it is nice to be back in the thick of the action but concedes he is unsure how he will perform due to his limited time working on his game.

Willet said: “It has been a bit of chaos back home with media interviews and stuff, so it has not really been a quiet four weeks I have been expecting, but in a good way obviously.”

“So (yes) I still had a bit of downtime, but I have not played as much golf as I would’ve liked back at home for various reasons, so yes it is good to be back with the guys practising. Hopefully we can get off to a good start this week.”
