Slattery in contention at KLM Open

Englishman Lee Slattery hit a seven-under-par 63 to take a share of the lead at the KLM Open in the Netherlands.

The 37-year-old is now tied for the lead alongside Spaniard Rafa Cabrera-Bello, with the pair tied on 16-under.

Slattery is hoping to win back-to-back European Tour titles after claiming the Russian Open last week.

A superb round put him in contention going into the final day on Sunday, with Scotland’s Paul Lawrie now one shot behind the leading pair after a superb 63.

The 1998 Open champion is one shot in front of Thomas Pieters of Belgium, while Finland’s Mikko Ilonen hit a round of 62 to give himself hope ahead of the final round.
