Jim Furyk says he may have to miss the remainder of the year after pulling out of the BMW Championship with a wrist injury.

The 45-year-old was one-over par through six holes of the latest FedEx Cup play-off event when he was forced to call it quits due to the pain he was experiencing.

The American had never failed to complete a tournament before in 20 years on the PGA Tour, but says he could not continue at Conway Farms, the venue where he shot a remarkable 59 two years ago.

Furyk explained that the problem had first occurred at the Deutsche Bank Championship a fortnight ago before flaring up in the pro-am ahead of the BMW Championship.

The world number seven says the injury puts his participation in the Tour Championship and Presidents Cup in the run up to the end of the year in serious doubt.

“I’m very concerned,” said Furyk. “I would like to be ready for both of them, and if I can’t get ready for next week, I would like to get ready for the Presidents Cup.

“But also I want to play with a chance to compete, and right now being out here I have no chance to compete this week with the pain I was feeling and with what I had shot-wise.

“I’m in pain out there and I’m not near 100 per cent,” he added. “I don’t know if flinching is the right word, but I’m having a hard time getting through the ball on the ground right now.”
