Charley Hoffman birdied the final hole to win his fourth PGA Tour title at the Texas Open on Sunday.

Overnight leader Ricky Barnes failed to hold onto his slender advantage on the final day and before long the contest evolved into a two horse race between Hoffman and Patrick Reid.

Hoffman stayed composed throughout the day firing birdies on hole 4, 11 and 14. They 39-year-old then hit a superb par saving put on the 17th to keep him a shot ahead of Reid with just one hole left to play.

Reed thought he might have forced a play off when he birdied the last but Hoffman held on to his advantage with a calm winning put from the edge of the green.

As for the Brits, Luke Donald endured a rather frustrating final day. The 38-year-old was just two shots off the lead with one round left to play but he seemed to struggle with the conditions and bogeyed the 1st, 4th and 11th to finish five shots behind Hoffman.

The PGA Tour roles into New Orleans this weekend for the Zurich Classic. Justin Rose will be hoping to defend his title but the 35-year-old will face competition from the likes of Ricky Fowler, Jason Day and the now in form Charley Hoffman.
