Shane Lowry sets his sights on Augusta

Shane Lowry insists he will do all he can to qualify for the Masters at Augusta National as he looks for a strong start to 2018.

The world number 62 enjoyed a strong end to 2017 but his disastrous start saw him plummet down the world rankings.

He finished in the top 25 in seven of his last nine tournaments and ended the year with a T2 placed finish at the DP World Tour Championship.

Lowry has ambitions to play in next year’s Ryder Cup for Europe but has only qualified for one major so far in 2018. He has also not qualified for any of the World Golf Championships but the Irishman is determined to play in Georgia in April.

He told Irish Golf Desk: “I don’t mind talking about Majors and I want to do well in them.

“My main goal is to get into Augusta in April and how I do that, we’ll have to wait and see.

“Hopefully it comes from a win in America but from 61st in the world, it just takes a couple of good weeks to jump inside the top 50 to get there.

“I have my card on two tours and look, winning a Major is the main goal for anyone with any ambitions at the top of world golf. But I have to make sure I am in them first and that’s my first goal for the start of the year to make sure I am in Augusta and make sure I am in those WGCs.”
