Europe’s captain Carin Koch has confirmed her 12-woman Solheim Cup team, with Caroline Hedwall one of the four wildcard selections.

The Swedish star, who was named Ladies European Tour Player of the Year in 2011, failed to automatically qualify for the competition after a run of poor results this season.

The 26-year-old was tied-70th in the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and missed the cut in the Cambia Portland Classic in the last two outings, while a victory has not been recorded this campaign.

However, the Swede’s record in the Soheim Cup is fantastic, winning in 2011 and 2013 while she became the first player in history to win all five points from as many matches two years ago, and was a part of the European team to win on US soil for the first time in Colorado.

Hedwall formed a strong partnership with Anna Nordqvist and Caroline Masson, defeating all their opponents, and the wildcard pick is delighted to have been included once again.

“I’m just really excited about it. After my last two tournaments I wasn’t expecting anything and when Carin called I was really happy because I love the Solheim Cup and I’m really pumped to get to Germany and play,” he said.

“I love that team and I’m really excited to get back to Europe. When I played in the Ladies European Tour event in Germany the crowds were really good and comparable with those in Sweden.”

Karine Icher, Masson and Catriona Matthew are the final three wildcard picks to complete the 12-woman team, who will be looking to record a third successive victory over the Americans.

The 14th edition of the event, which follows the same format of the Ryder Cup, will get underway on September 18-20 at the at the St. Leon course in Germany.
