Rory McIlroy feels his game is in good shape heading into the US Open at Oakmont from June 16-19.

McIlroy, whose first major win came at the 2011 US Open, has been in terrific form in 2016 and a 13th European Tour win was picked up last month at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

The Northern Irishman came close to claiming back-to-back victories at the Memorial Tournament last time out, finishing tied-fourth after a brilliant final round performance.

Eight top-10 results have been recorded for the four-time major winner this year and there is real optimism heading to Pennsylvania for the coveted event.

McIlroy was delighted with his recent display on American soil and is looking forward to keeping the momentum going for the US Open as he targets a first major title since the 2014 US PGA Championship.

“Off the tee I was really good this week and I feel like my putting improved a lot,” he said. “If you look at the stats from my putting, I feel like it’s been really good.

“So all things considered, it’s been a decent week. Time to get ready for Oakmont.”

World number one Jason Day and defending champion Jordan Spieth, who make up the so-called ?Big Three?, will be hoping to up their game after frustrating performances at the Memorial.
