Ryan Moore is on course to win the John Deere Classic as he takes a slender one-shot lead into Sunday’s final round at TPC Deere Run.

The 33-year-old American fired six birdies in a blemish-free third round on Saturday to post a third successive 65 which leaves him one shot clear of compatriots Ben Martin and Morgan Hoffmann, who moved to 17 under for the tournament with respective 62s.

Martin looked set to fire a sub-60 round with five successive birdies at the start of his round, but he failed to maintain that form mid-round with four more birdies in the final five holes ensuring he came back into contention and sits tied for second.

Hoffman also kept himself firmly in the running with an impressive run of six birdies in succession from the 11th hole.

“It’s a great feeling,” he said on the PGA Tour website.

“The process has been playing out well. We had a good plan coming in with my coach, and it’s nice to have something working out finally.”

However, halfway leader Wesley Bryan slipped down to tied 13th and six shots off the pace after a one-under 70, which included a costly double bogey at the 15th.
