Russell Knox says he has done all he can to earn one of Europe’s three captain’s pick for the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.

Knox has enjoyed a sensational rise up the world rankings over the past year and two victories on the PGA Tour have seen him jump to 20th in the standings.

The Scot clinched victory at the WGC HSBC Champions event in November 2015 but the tournament did not earn him any qualification points for the Ryder Cup.

He took up European Tour membership after his maiden win on the American circuit and two impressive runners-up finishes at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and Dubai Duty Free Irish Open were to follow.

The 31-year-old’s biggest success came at the Travelers Championship earlier this month, causing many to suggest he should be handed one of Darren Clarke’s three picks.

Knox, who would be the sixth rookie on the team, feels there is nothing more he can do to persuade the Irish skipper to pick him and he will just wait and see what happens.

“I feel like I’ve done everything I could do,” he said. “I played my best. I made the commitment to join the European Tour so I was eligible. I played well. So I guess I’ve made my case and hopefully it’s good enough.”

Knox is battling with the likes of Lee Westwood, Shane Lowry, Martin Kaymer, Soren Kjeldsen, Tyrrell Hatton and Andrew Johnston for one of the final three slots.
