Chris Wood hoping for Beijing success at China Open

Chris Wood is hoping to kick-start his season by securing a positive result at this week’s Volvo China Open.

The Englishman has not secured a top-ten finish since he claimed a tie for sixth place at the Lyoness Open in June, while his last victory on the European Tour came at the 2016 BMW PGA Championship.

Wood’s best showing to date this season was a tie for 11th place at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in February, but despite his recent struggles, the 29-year-old remains convinced his overall form is good enough to mount a challenge for glory at Topwin G&CC.

He said: “When you have been playing well but not scoring, you really feel like you start to show a bit of form. You are certainly eager for Thursday to come and test it out really, to see if you can post some scores because I’ve been playing the golf but not making the scores.”

The Bristol-born man has not played a competitive round of golf since missing the cut at The Masters earlier this month, although he insists he is fully ready for this week?s event.

“I’ve been playing alright but just not really scoring, hence why I need to keep playing,” Wood added. “I have had a couple of weeks off since The Masters and practised hard at home, so I am ready for this week.”

Wood does not have an impressive record in China, as he has never finished better than a tie for 31st at the event.
