Rickie Fowler says he hopes he can carry his good form into The Open, having claimed the Scottish Open crown at Gullane.

The 26-year-old managed to beat fellow American Matt Kuchar and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin to the title in East Lothian, after a stunning finish to his final round on Sunday.

Three fine birdies on his last four holes saw Fowler secure the win and now he is looking for further success in The Open at St Andrews this week.

He was quoted by the BBC, saying: “I had to really dig deep.

“It’s been a special week and I’m looking forward to taking this form over to the Open.

“I had heard good things [about Gullane]. The Scottish crowd appreciate good shots. I really enjoyed playing in front of them.”

Fowler finished tied for second at The Open 12 months ago, with Rory McIlroy, who will be absent at St Andrews due to injury, taking that title at Holylake.
