Wood expects better Masters show

Chris Wood is confident of a much improved display at the Masters next year than when he missed the cut in his previous outing in 2010.

The 28-year-old Bristolian had not been a member of the professional ranks for long when he secured an invite to the opening major tournament of the calendar year courtesy of a top-three finish in The Open Championship at Turnberry in July 2009.

Wood’s experience of playing at Augusta National proved to be a short lived affair as he missed the cut following rounds of 78 and 76.

However, he will go back in April determined to prove that he has made huge strides in the past six years.

A second career Tour title in Austria back in June, before a 17th-place finish in the Race to Dubai standings put Wood on the path to a second Masters appearance, but third place in his season-ending outing at the Nedbank Golf Challenge pushed him inside the world’s Top 50 to qualify.

Wood told Sky Sports News: “I’m just so excited to know I’ll be going back there.

“I’d only been a year on Tour and felt so inexperienced last time. Looking back now I can’t believe I was there to be honest.

“But I’m a completely different golfer know. I feel I’ll be able to go there and compete, whereas before I probably felt I was only there making up the numbers.”
