European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn is a big fan of England’s Tyrrell Hatton and feels he could feature in next year’s side.

Hatton successfully defended his Dunhill Links title on Sunday to claim a second European Tour crown and is now ranked 22nd in the world.

The Marlow resident put together a solid run at the end of last season which saw him finish second at the DP World Tour Championship and he then backed that up with four consecutive top-10 finishes early this campaign.

A share of fourth at both the Honda Classic and Arnold Palmer Invitational stateside followed, before a mid-season slump when he missed five consecutive cuts.

The 25-year-old also failed to make the weekend at all four Majors, but a resurgence in recent weeks seems to have banished the memories of that frustrating period.

And, having watched him in Scotland, Bjorn was full of praise for the youngster and believes he has every chance of facing the USA in France.

“He’s a wonderful player and he’s got a great attitude towards the game,” he told BBC Three Counties Radio. “He’s aggressive in his mind, he wants to achieve things and sometimes that might come across like people think he’s too aggressive, but that’s what you want from your players.

“You want young players that want to get out there and be the best they can be.

“He really has risen and become a player that has a very good chance of not just being there in 12 months, but in general has a good chance of achieving great things.”
