Willett happy with “situation”

Danny Willett says he’s pleased to be in with a chance of winning the Race to Dubai after closing in on Rory McIlroy over the weekeend.

McIlroy currently sits at the top of the standings with a 1,613 advantage over Willett with just the DP World Tour Championship still to play.

Willett had the opportunity to usurp the Northern Irishman at the BMW Masters, which McIlroy missed, but he failed to finish alone in 28th or better.

The Englishman was tied with two other players for 28th after a poor final round at Lake Malaren, but he knows victory next week will do the job.

Willett said: “Last week was pretty stale – obviously I had a good last round – and this week’s just been stale again.

“I putted pretty poorly for four days. I never really got anything going. It’s close though and I guess you can look at it as if I go there next week and I win, I win. It’s one of those good situations to be in. I’ve got a day and a half off to regroup and chill out and I know I’m going to have a chance next week.”
