Nicklaus expects Tiger resurgance

Jack Nicklaus is confident Tiger Woods will return from injury and enjoy more success in the major events.

The 39-year-old is currently on the sidelines having undergone back surgery and the American recently admitted that he could be forced to retire from the sport because the recovery is taking so long.

Woods’ last victory came back in 2013 at the Bridgestone Invitational – his eighth success in the tournament – and he has struggled with numerous injuries ever since.

The Californian was expected to challenge Nicklaus’ record of 18 major titles when he was at the peak of his career but the 79-time PGA Tour winner last won one of the big four competitions back in 2008 at the US Open.

It is a tricky time for Woods at the moment but Nicklaus is adamant the former world number one will get back to his best and once again reign supreme.

“He’s such a great athlete and such a good competitor. I think he’ll come back,” he said. “I think Tiger will come back and he’s got more to win.”

However, Nicklaus did offer some caution to Woods and has warned his compatriot not to rush his recovery and wait for the right time to return.

“He’s such a great athlete and such a good competitor,” he added. “I think he’ll come back, but don’t hurt yourself. Be patient. He’s got a lot of good golf left in him.”
