Danny Lee won his first title on the PGA Tour at The Greenbrier Classic on Sunday after edging through a four-man play-off.

The 24-year-old sealed his maiden success by beating Canadian David Hearn at the second play-off hole after Americans Robert Streb and Kevin Kisner were both earlier eliminated.

All four players had finished on 13-under-par for the tournament with Lee and Hearn both carding 67s, while Kisner fired a 64 to set the pace at White Sulphur Springs.

Streb was perhaps the most impressive during the final round when he shot a 65 despite being forced to play the back nine without a putter after it snapped when he casually tossed it towards his bag following the par four ninth.

It was New Zealander Lee, however, who held his nerve the best during the extra holes as he first birdied the 18th alongside Hearn to eliminate the other two, before recovering from a way-wood tee shot at the 17th to secure the par he needed to win his first tournament on American soil.

It was the fifth time the world number 78 had secured a top 20 finish in 2015 and he admitted afterwards that he was relieved to finally achieve overall glory.

He said: “All I can say is ‘wow’ – it feels amazing. I was so close a lot of times this year and I finally did it. Now I understand what winning feels like.”

The win followed up the South Korean born player’s only victory on the European Tour which came at the Johnnie Walker Classic over five years ago and he will now be looking to build on his success going into the rest of the season.
