Jordan Spieth admits he needs rankings boost

Jordan Spieth admits he is “pretty far out” on the Presidents Cup standings but that is a “massive goal” of his to make the US team.

The three-time major winner and 2015 FedEx Cup champion is currently ranked 27th in the standings after two seasons during which he has posted a combined total of just eight top-10s finishes.

He will be targeting a string finish at Greensboro this week in the Wyndham Championship, which he won in 2013 in his only other appearance at the event, in order to boost his lowly FedEx Cup ranking from 67.

The 26-year-old has played in every Presidents Cup since Fred Couples picked him as a rookie in 2013 and has said that making the team is a “massive goal” because he finds international match play events the “most fun weeks of the year.” With the Presidents Cup around the corner, so too is the football season. “I understand that as of now I’m pretty far out of it, but I’m not going to think much about it,” Spieth told

“The best way for me to, you know, deserve a pick is to take care of my own business over the next few weeks.

“With this many years, I’m aware of when I’m close and I’m aware when I’m not. So, I’m just trying to stay as patient as possible, give myself as many birdie putts, greens in regulation being an important stat for me over the next few weeks, and should work my way up and have a chance.”
